This is a continuation of my list of Roadkill Animals published on January 5, 2012. We see many animals killed on the road here in the south. I'm an animal lover, and this makes me sad. Here are five more animals I see dead on the road often here in Louisiana and Mississippi.
Raccoons are another animal that end up on the road dead. They get caught in traffic on the highways while trying to cross the road. I think raccoons are beautiful! We had a family that lived in the woods near us a long time ago that would bring the babies to eat dog food stored under out carport. Took awhile to figure out what was happening, but we finally caught them in the act! So cute!
Dogs are seen way too frequently for me. I hate to see a dead animal period, but knowing that a dog was probably someone's pet makes me sadder than usual.
Cats are also seen dead on the roads here. I see adult cats and also kittens. This is another animal that sends me into a sad mood when I see one dead in the road.
We have a good many turtles here and you can see them sunning on a log when you pass a river, stream, pond oreek. I guess they go searching for better homes, food, etc. and also get caught in the road to be run over and killed.
Pigs are not seen very often dead in the road, but I have seen several in the last two or three years. Wild pigs are a problem here in the woods and reproduce as fast as a grass fire in the middle of summer.
I feel so bad when I see someone's pet in the middle of the road. Good list.
Great list!
