The first serving of Coca-Cola was made in Atlanta, Georgia May 8, 1886. The original mixture used a cola syrup and carbonated water. The price for the first drink was only five cents.
John Pemberton, a medical doctor, is given the credit for the discovery of the Coca-Cola syrup and the innovation to mix the cola syrup with carbonated water.
The original formulation of Coca Cola was designed to help people relax and to reduce mental tension. Part of the original formulation included the use of cocaine, a drug now banned in the U.S. The cocaine was reduced in the formulation and by 1929, the cocaine was totally removed from the drink.
The original formula has changed over the years. Modifications were necessary as the source of sugar changed from cane sugar to corn syrup sweetener. Diet formulations also required special formula changes.
The Coca-Cola Company reported sales totaled only nine drinks in in 1886. The company served more than 1.7 billion drinks in 2011. The market also expanded from one drug store in Atlanta to more than 200 countries in 2010.
Nice list!
I'm also going to try the heated cold remedy!
Unfortunately, caffeine is addictive and most Coke formulas are loaded with it.
I think I'll try that heated cinnamon Coke drink next time I have a cold. Coca Cola syrup also aids in digestion. H5
Even without the cocaine I am a mild Coca-Cola addict. I prefer the Vanilla Coke. A friend makes a heated cinnamon Coke drink when he has a cold. It is pretty darn good as well.
