Just like Nasal allergies, there are things that can be done to prevent exposure to food allergies. Food allergies can be much more dangerous than the pollen and dust mite stuff. Typical symptoms might be a swelling of the tongue, difficulty breathing, lowered blood pressure-some of these thing can (and do) kill people.
Sometimes foods are hidden. If you have an allergy, you have to read labels and it is unfortunate that even eating at restaurants becomes cumbersome.
If you have read all the labels and have not brought anything into the house that is going to hurt someone with an allergy, you would think you wouldn't need to do this. When people prepare food at the last minute, they might not think and inadvertently add something that could cause a reaction.
If ingredients in the cookbook aren't going to keep you safe, you should keep a file of recipes that you have changed to fit the needs in your family. And if it is one of your children, it will be a great tool to pass down when he or she gets married.
We're still a social people so if we are able to teach family members and friends, the person with an allergy might not have to bring their own food each there is a get together. Better to be safe than sorry. The real area of education for friends and family is with regard to emergency measures-they have to know what to do in an emergency.
These won't limit exposure but could save a life. People with food allergies should carry epinephrine to halt the symptoms of their food allergy and a medical bracelet listing the food allergy is a good idea too.
Thank you for your good list.
These tips are so important. You have to be so careful. I have a son-in-law and grandson with terrible food allergies. We have been in some frightening situations, especially with my grandson. He inherited everything his father is allergic to plus peanuts.
Very helpful tips for all health conscious people, to remember when shopping. H5
