Wouldn't it be nice to work from your sweats or pajamas? Just the thought of not having to worry about morning traffic is music to a commuter's ears. If the thought of being more independent by working from home has ever crossed your mind, you are not alone. More and more individuals are seeking refuge from their 9-5 jobs. Here are some things to consider before making the transition.
Most people who work a traditional 9-5 tend to spend more money on little things like coffee, lunches and sometimes new clothes. Think about it, spending 10 dollars a day on lunch or 5 bucks a day at Starbucks really adds up. Instead, you can save money by eating a healthy lunch and drinking coffee right in your own kitchen. What about laundry or dry cleaning? You will also save money on laundry because you won't have to fuss about wearing a suit.
The furthest place you'll commute will be your home office whether that be your bedroom or den. No need to worry about gas or car maintenance from the wear and tear your car is subjected to on a daily basis.
I don't know many employers that will allow you to take a couple of hours out of the day to run errands. When you work from home, you plan your day. If you need to leave in the morning to run a few errands or pick up your children from school, you have that flexibility. In addition, if you would like to take a vacation, you do not have to request time off and wait for approval. Remember, you are your own boss.
How many of you have heard your kids or family members say:"We never see you anymore. You are always at work." It makes you feel bad and sometimes guilty because you are working 40-50 hours a week. But you know that someone has to put food on the table and keep the lights on. When you make the decision to work from home, you will actually be able to spend more time with the kids, helping them with their homework and even enjoying something as simple as a family meal.
More and more individuals are experiencing stress-related illness such as headaches, back pain and anxiety. Some have illnesses as serious as high blood pressure or heart attacks. Working from home allows you to have your own schedule working as many hours as you please. You have a choice to work part-time or full-time. You also get to do it in the comfort of your own home without having to deal with office politics.
Working from home is not for everyone. Only you can decide if this is a transition suitable for you. The best way to determine if working from home is suitable for you, is to review the skills you currently have and see if any of these can be used to start your own business. Remember, the most successful people in life are not afraid to think outside the box. Life is short. Go for it!
Smart and useful true list. Thank you for the reminders!
