You might not see the results of these energy saving tips right away, but you will recognize the difference in your monthly bills as time goes by. The present economy requires almost everyone to save money on energy in the home. These tips will help your budget.
Run the dishwasher when it is full. Rinse only if needed in between full loads. When the cycle is finished, with the final rinse, open or turn off the dishwasher not letting the dry cycle to begin. Energy is saved just by omitting the drying cycle.
Sort clothes before putting the items in the automatic dryer. Heavy items like towels should be separated from the quick drying items. Use a drying rack for heavy items to allow some air drying first before putting into the automatic dryer.
Remove the lint after each use of the clothes dryer. The clogged lint filter does not allow the full drying action of your appliance. Wash the lint filter every month if you use dryer sheets. The build up in the filter will be seen when you carefully wash and rinse the dryer filter.
As items are finished drying, remove them promptly. This will allow energy savings since gas or electricity is not needed to dry already dried items. By removing the dried articles it gives more room for the drying of the items needing more tossing, which will save money in energy costs.
Close off or turn down thermostats in rooms not needing heat. Turn heat down to lowest setting when at work or away for 6 to 8 hours. Why heat a place when people are not present? Lower heat 5 degrees when at home. Put on a sweatshirt or sweater to save energy.
