Bloggers are an interesting breed. I found this out recently as I went "blog hopping" to see exactly what available to online readers. What I found was shocking. Bloggers are making mistakes that will keep their blog from being successful - as in no readers, no page rank with search engines and no revenue. These are just a few of the mistakes bloggers were making that must be avoided for a blog to be successful.
One of the mistakes bloggers are making is that their blogs lacks direction. The blogs seem to lack a theme or "reason for being." Topics vary within the blog and, sometimes, within the post. For a blog to be successful, a blogger must choose a direction (or theme) and stick with it.
Another one of the mistakes bloggers are making is that their blogs are over advertised. Many blogs have so many ads on them it is difficult to find the content. From Google Adsense to InfoLinks and Amazon links to the blogger seller their products on other websites, the blogs had too many ads. Blog readers want to read something, not weed through hundreds of ads to find something to read.
One of the mistakes bloggers are making is their blogs contain "text speak." The word "see" was changed to "C" and "to" became "2." The "LOLs" and "IMOs" were too numerous to count. Bloggers need to save the text speak for Twitter, Facebook and personal emails. Bloggers will lose readers, followers and money by using text speak in their blogs.
Another one of the mistakes bloggers are making is that their blog's layout isn't "reader friendly." Narrow columns with giant fonts are hard to read. Many of the ads were cut off. Some blogs are difficult, if not impossible, to read because of the colors used. Bloggers need to be careful that their text is easy to read and doesn't "move around" on the page because of combining the wrong colors together.
One of the mistakes bloggers are making is their blogs contain obvious errors. Misspelled words and mistakes with grammar ran rampant on many blogs. Bloggers should check, double check and check again their posts before adding them to their blogs. Although many readers may not notice the errors, some will notice them and it can be a turn off to them.
Blogging isn't as easy it may seem. There is a lot of time and effort put into making a blog successful. Unless a blogger is only writing for themselves without anyone else reading it, these mistakes would be fine. However, most blogs are written to be enjoyed by other and many are written as a source of income. With mistakes like the ones mentioned, the success of the blog will be severely limited.
Very accurate points!
Saw this article in the forum and came to read. I'm glad I did - greattips!
High 5 for this. I see mistakes I make and will be making some changes. My personal pet peeve is how some writers use text speak in their ARTICLES!!! Really? It is so unprofessional.
