No doubt it's important to stay in shape. In fact as you age it becomes even more important. The more active you are the better your quality of life will be as you reach those golden years.
The question then becomes; how do you stay in shape? The answer is really simple. You incorporate healthy living habits into your every day life.
If you've gotten out of shape, this is something you can work on over time. Here are five tips to help you get on track.
Increase Physical Activity
You've probably heard this before, and groan whenever you hear it. It's not difficult to increase your activity level.
If you like to watch television, don't sit there for hours on end. Get up during commercials and walk around or do something.
You can also pause your program for a few minutes and walk around the room. That's the advantage of the electronic age.
Flip the station to an exercise program for a couple of minutes. Do anything that gets you moving. Play with the kids and run around the house. Go to the park or for a walk in the fresh air.
Eat Less Processed Foods
When you go shopping at the grocery store, stay away from the center food isles. That's where all the processed foods are. The best thing for your body is to choose fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables.
Most processed foods contain high amounts of salt and sugars. Too much processed sugars contribute to developing diabetes. Salt can be one of the causes of hight blood pressure.
Don't Skip Meals
Many people make the mistake of skipping meals. Some studies have shown that skipping meals is associated with poor health.
A lot of times if you skip a meal the tendency is to overeat at the next meal. Skipping meals can also play havoc with your metabolism.
Vary Your Workout
One major problem for many people is boredom. It's not particularly fun to work out so you have to find ways to keep from getting bored.
You can vary your workout. One day go for a walk, another day do your normal exercise routine. In the summer time go for a swim. There are many things that you can do to have fun and exercise at the same time.
Make exercise a part of your life. Before you know it exercise won't be a chore, it'll be fun.
Improve Your Attitude
You would be surprised at what a positive attitude will do for you. If you put positive forces to work for you in your life, it's amazing how that can help you.
Think about it. Most people associate negatives with something bad. So if you always think negative thoughts, how does thinking the worst help you?
If you think in the positive, you are doing things in a good way that will help to improve your situation. Changing your outlook to one that is positive will change your life for the better.
Excellent advice to staying in shape. I completely agree with you. You should never skip a meal. I am pretty bad at living up to that though. I had also heard that you are better off changing and mixing up your exercises instead of sticking to the same thing day after day just as you had said. Well done list of 5.
