Ways to Help a Child Succeed In School

Introduction:

Kids need a little help and direction to feel successful in school. If they feel successful they will excel. Help them to excel.

Check Their Backpacks

Don't rely on making it their responsibility to show you what they have. That is a cop out and not good parenting. Check their backpack and take out any papers that should stay home. Bring attention to anything that needs signatures, money, etc.

Know Their Schedule

Does your child have gym on Tuesdays? Make sure you know when they do and they are prepared. Do they need to bring in a smock on certain days? Make sure they do! Don't blame a child for being unprepared. This is a parents fault. If you start very young remember things, you will teach your child how to be organized and remember things too. You are instilling the importance of being responsible. You can't teach a child to be responsible by putting it on their shoulders and then punishing them when they don't follow through. That's poor parenting when they are young, or never saw you being responsible while they were young.

Ask Questions

Ask them how their day was, but don't stop there. Ask them who they played with during recess. Ask them what their favorite thing to do for the day was. Tell them how important they are to you. Always talk and ask questions to your child. Figure out what is bothering them and what isn't. Know how to fix any bad situations.

Check Website

Does your child's school have a website? Get to know it, and understand it. Does the teacher post homework on there? Are the upcoming events on there? Know what is going on and you will be helping your child in a huge way.

Talk to the Teacher

Constantly stay in touch with the teacher, and ask how your child is doing. Ask what you can do to help your child at home and do it! If you can communicate with your child's teacher via email, you are better off. The more communication with the teacher the more you can help your child!




Final Thoughts

Don't ever give up on your child! Keep helping them feel successful and they will eventually become successful.
