A Christmas Carol is one of the most beloved Christmas stories ever written. Charles Dickens first published the story in 1843. It was an immediate success. Over the years it has taken on new forms, from illustrated children's books, to theatrical plays and movies. Some follow the story faithfully as a Victorian tale, defined by the extraordinary actors who play Scrooge. Some revamp the setting and characters to bring it in a fresh way to new fans. Here are my all-time favorite A Christmas Carol movie verions.
This is my absolute favorite version of A Christmas Carol. The Victorian setting is expertly captured and George C. Scott is brilliant as Ebenezer Scrooge. It never ceases to make me cry when Scrooge is reborn and realizes that he has not missed Christmas.
This movie version of A Christmas Carol nearly...NEARLY...knocked the George C. Scott version out of first place. It is the first version I have ever seen with truly scary Christmas spirits. The whole things is masterfully rendered, and I think it is one of Jim Carey's finest performances.
Patrick Stewart is always brilliant. His interpretation of Ebenezer Scrooge is up to his usual fine standards. A very fine version of the story, it's just not my favorite
This updated version of A Christmas Carol is hillarious, but still gets the important message across that being generous of spirit is more important than being successful. Bill Murray is fabulous, but my favorite character is the Spirit of Christmas Past and how she whacks Scrooge on the head whenever he says of does something stupid.
This animated version of A Christmas Carol is a great introduction of the story to young children. The ghosts aren't as scary as some in the other versions and all the characters are universally loved.
Yeah, my favorite on this list is "Mickey's Christmas Carol!" haha Great list! There are so many fantastic versions of this movie out there. :) Thanks for sharing your top five. :)
Can you get any better than Mickey? No. Didn't think so.
