Besides the obvious, washing your hands after using the restroom, scratching your butt or picking your nose there are other times when doing so is recommended. A word of caution: Hand sanitizers are great and very effective at killing germs. However, be aware that they do cause dryness if over used and are not meant to replace hand washing indefinitely. Keep a bottle in your car for on-the-go cleaning.
Notice that grungy feeling on your hands after buying the groceries? That is a combination of nasty things, from possible pesticides to other germy hands to spilled juices and dried meat blood.
Surprised? Hospitals are a hot bed of viral and infectious diseases and pathogens. Make use of the hand sanitizer hospitals now keep in almost every room and wash well with warm water and soap after visiting.
We all know how germs spread throughout schools, it's even worse on school buses. Have your children wash their hands and their faces thoroughly as soon as they get home from school.
Washing before you eat is most obvious but restaurants, especially those that offer buffet style dining are another hot bed for germs. Be sure to wash thoroughly before leaving the restaurant or use hand sanitizer.
Public meetings of all kinds could be a threat, whether it's an office meeting or a backyard barbeque. If there is a lot of sneezing, blowing, sniffing and wiping going on you need to keep those hands away from your face and wash as soon as possible.

A conscientious hand washer such as I, I can tell you've been around the block as well. These are key places to be conscious of washing hands. Nobody wants to be rude but I have seen things people do in church before they shake a hand in fellowship and where as I don't refuse the hand shake, I always have that bottle of sanitizer until can wash. Great article and congratulations!
Great health post for washing hands.Congratulations on the front page spot.
Just reading this makes me want to wash my hands. Enjoy the front page.
Not to sound like a mysophobic, anytime is the perfect time to wash your hands!

Congratulations on the featured list! Great ideas. When I volunteer, we also sanitize the booths before and after reading at Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic.
Hand washing is our single most line of defense against those nasty little germs that make us sick. I'm glad to see you included the hospital and add to that the Dr's office - germy places.
Washing one's hands at least 7 times a day is recommended. I know I wash my hands much more than that and wish others did too!
Always thought I was pretty good at this, but I see I don't wash up as often as I should! Appreciate your list. Here's to soap and water! :)
Thank you for the reminders some I have not thought of in a couple years. And with winter upon us, this is a great help! GBU and yours. :)
