Homesteading refers to living a simpler, less complicated life; it can be in a rural setting, but you can also homestead in urban areas.
There are various issues related to homesteading, which are listed in section 2.
Some of these are :
gardening
canning
root cellars
housing
land
pantry
livestock
You can have some chickens, for their meat and eggs.
You can have a small plot for a garden, or if you own more acreage you can invest in livestock.
You can have some goats or cows for dairy, such as milk.
You can make your own soap, using used cooking fat and ashes from a woodfire, strained with water, to get rid of impurities; it can be used to wash your body, hair and clothes.
Homesteading also refers to sustainability and self-reliance. Some people believe that the world will end, or that the economies of the world will crash, and people will have to be in survival mode.
Although some of these idealogies are radical, there are good reasons to learn how to sustain yourself or your family, ecologically. It is easier on the environment, more economical and most likely less stressful.
If you have less bills to pay because you're living in a cabin in the woods and you don't have cable, electricity or a mortgage, that can be alot less stressful for some people. It all depends to what extent you would like to partake in the "survival" way of life.
LOL Living in the woods would be a lot more stressful to me! no cable, electric, etc... Ugghhh!
Great list. I guess I am a partial homesteader.
