Cookie Monster is one of the most beloved Muppets. This blue, furry, bi-pedal monster is the creation of Jim Henson.
The Cookie Monster was actually first drawn as a cookie eating monster for a General Foods Commercial that never aired. At that time he was known as the Wheel Stealer. He next appeared in an IBM training video, and then on the Ed Sullivan show. Still without a name, he debuted in the first episode of Sesame Street with Kermit the Frog, where he interrupted Kermit's "W lecture" by eating the letter.
An episode of Sesame Street featuring a Muppet game show is where the Cookie Monster got his name. The winner of the show could choose a vacation, a new house, a cash prize or a cookie. He chose a cookie and a star was born. In 2004, the Cookie Monster was heard saying that before he ate his first cookie, he believes his name might have been Sid.
The Cookie Monster's theme song is titled "C is for Cookie". It is one of the most famous Sesame street songs. The Cookie Monster, of course, performs his own song in his own style.
Besides his "C is for Cookie" from his theme song, other famous Cookie Monster quotes are "Me want cookie," and "Om nom nom nom," which he usually utters through a mouthful of food. Other notables include "Cookie, cookie, cookie starts with C," "Cookie Monster thief, not liar" and "Oh, good evening. Me still Alistair Cookie and this still Monsterpiece Theater."
The Cookie Monster's favorite food is cookies, most specifically chocolate chip cookies followed by sugar cookies. He has also been known to eat donuts, flowers, salt and pepper shakers, telephones, motorcycles and letters of the alphabet.
