Witches can find the tools of the trade anywhere -- your finger can serve to cast a circle and a tree branch transforms into a wand with your intention. For those who desire more formal tools, shop your local pagan or new age store and look for the five most important tools of the Craft.
Cast your magic circle with your athame, a ceremonial dagger. Choose an athame with a blunt point if you wish, to avoid accidents during use. Inscribe your athame with runes or symbols to personalize it if you wish. Don't use your athame for non-magical cutting. Another knife, called a boline, should be used for any cutting needs during ritual.
Use the versatile wand in spell casting, blessings and other rituals. When dedicating new tools, touch them with your wand while chanting words of purification. Ground any remaining power in your wand after your ritual to save it for your next casting. The best wands are hand-made by yourself, but purchased wands work fine, too. Personalize your wand with runes or special symbols, as with the athame.
Cauldrons come in many forms and sizes. Choose the best material and size for your altar and personal preferences. Sacred to the Goddess, cauldrons are used to mix potions and to burn herbs and other spell materials.
Essential for any altar, a pentacle can be made of wood, metal or even paper. Place the ritual water and salt on the pentacle when blessing them. Tools being dedicated can also be placed on the pentacle when purifying them.
Censers are any container used to hold incense. What form of incense you use is a personal preference. For best results, use fresh real herbs during your spells and rituals, but stick incense works fine, also.
Remember, natural tools and tools that you fashion yourself are always best, but don't hesitate to purchase what you can't produce. Check thrift sores and flea markets for the best bargains on these tools.
Interesting! I hadn't heard some of these terms. Enlightening list!
Personally, I like the Scripture that says not to suffer a witch to live ... no matter what her tools are!
Good list for any up and coming witch to have.
Thanks for the tips on tools for witches. H5
