Board games start calling out to us on those dark winter nights. Here are some of our family favorites.
This game has the most comprehensive assortment of dice that I have ever seen: numbered, lettered, colored, mini, triangular, hexagonal, etc. There is also a die within a die. The challenges in this game utilize the dice in varied and creative ways. Great fun for the whole family.
Visionary is a trivia board game, but the cards have questions based on photos, which is a twist from games such as Trivial Pursuit. This game is from the mid-1990s so may only be available secondhand.
I have been playing Boggle and Big Boggle since I was a kid and still have both of them from years ago. Big Boggle is a game where you make as many words as you can from letters in a 5x5 array. This technically isn't a board game, but it's one of my absolute favorites so I had to include it. (Boggle is the same game, but smaller with a 4x4 array of letters.)
I love the thinking and creative aspect of Pictionary and manage to never tire of it. We laugh and laugh when we play this because no matter how well-intentioned our sketches are, they just don't cut it. It doesn't stop us from playing, though.
Scattergories is a great game for list makers :) It's a fun thinking game, but the pressure is on because you can't take forever to come up with your answers. Using a list and a beginning letter determined from the 20-sided die, you try to think of words in each category on the list that are different from the other players.
A good way to try new family board games for little cost is to buy them secondhand. You might find some that you really enjoy and the others you can donate for someone else to try.
I love your list of family board games. I'd never heard of Dicecapades. It sounds like a fun game for my family to play.
Love Pictionary. Our family has a kids version and the kids really have a good time. Its also a way to get time away from video games.
