I have a theme on dog names in my house and it started with my 3-legged rescued dog, Hops. It only seemed logical as, well, he hops. Much better than the standard tripod or Eileen (plus, he's a boy so that didn't work). The first 4 names below are all of my rescues and have names based on liquor to go along with Hops.
Barley is a great name for a slow moving basset and goes just right with Hops. My own Barley is my very first 'failed rescue' - I fostered him and he just never went anywhere. And, after 13 years, I'm so glad.
As mentioned above, Hops is a great name for a 3-legged dog. And, rescuing a 3-legged dog is just a great thing anyway you look at it. My Hops is the sweetest of the 6 dogs and the most grateful. And, one of the oldest - He and Barley are both 13.
Killian is a great name for any red dog breed but my Killian is an Australian Shepherd who was slated to be put down the day I picked him up from the vet who called me. Killian, far from being the mean dog the previous owner reported, is a highly intelligent dog who only needed some training and a few jobs to keep him busy. Killian helps my elderly mom retrieve items from the floor and has a command of 'clean Gertie' which means de-crumb her. A cry of 'clean up, aisle one' gets him scurrying to the kitchen to check the area around my feet.
My Margarita is an island girl who came to me from a rescue in St. Croix. Margarita, or Rita for short, is a great name for a small dog breed and a very feminine looking dog. My Margarita is part papillon and part chihuahua and is quite stunning with her long, gold flowing locks.
Although overdone, I had to include Bailey in here as about every Golden Retriever I've met seems to be named Bailey. I personally prefer more creative names and would name a Golden anything but Bailey (or Goldie). Bailey is an ok name, I suppose, for any dog breed which has long blond hair. Maybe it's acceptable for an Afghan Hound...
Not to leave anyone out, we also have Gizmo (a mixed 'thing' which no one can figure out) and Matee (a purebred pug) rounding out our crew of 6 dogs. Oh, and then there's Jim Beam (JB for short), or confused cat. See the resource section below for some pictures of my motley crew and a few fun articles about the same.
ListMaker I'm with you on the purebred puppy ads; but they need good homes too.
Fun list.
Cool dog names. You gotta love it.
My late-great cocker spaniel was named Brandi! (Hey, there are also ads for healthy dog treats and the like.)
Peggy - I hate that there are ads for purebred puppies on this list - might take it down. Ugh!
I love this list! I would add Sam (for Sam Adams) and Jack (for Mr. Daniels)... Yum!
