Introduction:

These top five needlepoint supplies and gadgets will make stitching easier and much more fun. Simple to use, they can be found in most needlepoint shops or where fine art supplies are sold.

Stretcher Bars

Stretcher bars support the needlepoint canvas by keeping it stretched and crisp while you stitch. These needlepoint supplies also provide hands-free stitching when placed in a floor or lap stand or anchored to a table. Most needlepoint shops carry a wide variety of stretcher bars. They can also be purchased from shops that sell fine art supplies.

Laying Tool

A Laying Tool is used to spread multiple threads so they can lay side-by-side and flat on the canvas. As a result, your stitches look even and professional. This specialized item can only be found in needlepoint shops or online.

Magnification

Sometimes magnification is needed to see the canvas threads more clearly for stitching. Reading glasses are my favorite. Clip on magnifiers are a close second as they can be attached to the rim of a regular pair of glasses. Most needlepoint shops and fine art supplies stores carry a wide variety of magnifiers in different strengths.

Floor Stand

A wooden or metal floor stand will hold your project frame for hands-free stitching. Floor stands can be very elaborate and are usually chosen for comfort. Many large needlepoint shops carry a selection of floor stands although more choices can be found online.

Magnets

Magnets hold your scissors and needles on top of the frame. To use a pair, place one half of the magnet set on the bottom of your work and the other half on top. These popular needlepoint supplies can be found in craft as well as needlepoint shops.
