Ireland has contributed talent in many ways to the American spotlight. Irish culture is one of my favorite cultures with its beautiful country and people. Many Irish immigrants and their lineage have blessed us with some of our best music. These are my choice of Ireland's best singers.
I remember the late, Irish American singer Rosemary Clooney the best from the movie "White Christmas." Her parents were of Irish and German descent and she was the aunt of the famous actor, George Clooney. She had a beautiful voice and her last time singing before her death was "God Bless America" at her Hawaiian concert in 2001.
Bing Crosby was one of my favorite Irish American male singers of all time. His father's Irish parents emigrated to the United States in the seventeenth century. Bing Crosby was well known for his many songs and movies. My favorite song is "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas."
Sinead O'Connor is an Irish singer-songwriter who was born in County Dublin, Ireland. Her voice is smooth and she is best known for her hit song of the nineties "Nothing Compares 2 U."
Paul Hewson is better known as "Bono" from the rock band "U2." He was born in Dublin, Ireland and is a musician, singer and humanitarian. One of his best songs is "Don't Give Up" which he recorded with Alecia Keys in 2005.
The Irish singer, composer and musician Enya Brennan was born in Gweedore County Donegal, Ireland. She sings beautifully and has many hit songs. One favorite is "Only Time" which was recorded after the 9-11 attacks.
I would definitely add the Pogues!
I am a little amazed when I hear the Irish sing they don't seem to have much of an accent. thank you for this Irish American singer list. I was humming as I was reading it.
Bono and Enya are great, heck - they're all good :)
