Dale Carnigie, the famous author of "Win Friends and Influence People" was the son of a farmer from Missouri. He had extremely large ears, and had to wear cast off clothes that did not fit him. He determined that he would make up for his lack of an attractive appearance with his polished speaking skills. He became a powerful speaker and won many public speaking contests, and eventually changed from a social failure into an intellectual leader who wrote the above mentioned book, one of the best sellers of all time.
George Eliot was an English author whose true name was Marian Evans. She was not an attractive child, having a big nose, a jutting chin and an exceptionally full bottom lip. Her complexion was not clear, and her hair was dark and oily. As a child she enjoyed imagining make believe scenes in which she was the primary actress, something that no doubt led to her later success.
Janis Joplin is famous for penning the lyrics to the enduring hit, "Me and Bobby McGee." As a child she tried hard to be one of the "group". She was unhappy and felt judged by her acne and lack of mammary gland development.

Alfred Hitchcock, the English born American film director was a fat, plain young man, and often alone. He married the first girl he ever went out with. Always overweight, he joked about it. "A New York doctor once told me that I'm an adrenal type. That apparently means that I'm all body and only vestigial legs. But since I'm neither a mile runner nor a dancer, my present interest in my body is almost altogether from the waist up, that didn't bother me much." His distinctive body type, however, ended up becoming a major tool is making him the International celebrity that he became.
