Television shows are cancelled all the time. Failing ratings, changes in format, or even executive whims can all cause shows to be cancelled. Though it takes a truly special show to only air one episode.
"Emily's Reason's Why Not" was a "Sex and the City" ripoff designed for prime time. Starring Heather Graham, it dealt with such topics as Emily's inability to hold a boyfriend because he she thinks he is gay when instead he is a devout Mormon.
"Emily's Reason's Why Not" premiered January 9, 2006. It was cancelled January 11th.
In brief, no one wants to watch a show about a bunch of young pretty artists having to deal with the difficulties of their romantic and artistic lives through MySpace.
Quarterlife had lower ratings than the XFL.
On January 8th 2005 CBS aired a new reality TV show. In which friends and family of a rich man were in competition with one another to be placed as the sole heir of his multi-million dollar ranch... The show was so exciting that no one watched.
It's rare to see a fad die in the wild. Most often pop culture is just forgotten as new and more interesting bobbles are brought in to replace the old and worn out ones. However if you watch "Osbornes Reloaded" you can actually see the death of the Osbornes in pop culture.
Even before it aired, upon seeing tapes, many affiliate stations decided to air reruns of other shows. While the FOX network, having invested much in advertisements, had the show cut down from one hour to half an hour. To make up for the missing half hour, FOX made American Idol into and hour and a half long show.
Now just imagine how bad that extra half hour must have been if FOX decided that thirty minutes of American Idol fluff was better.
Try to imagine the most offensive thing you can... Did you imagine a sitcom about Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun, who live next door to a Jewish couple? Well neither did Galaxy TV in the UK, who promptly cancelled the show after one episode.
Never heard of any of these shows, and #5 is so offensive, and I'm not even Jewish! Glad that one was cancelled. Good list!
