Kids today are online. It's good, they learn to type, and learn what the internet has to offer, but they have to play smart!
Don't let your kids use their real names. If they have a Facebook, they should use a part of their name, but not their full name. Like maybe if their name is Caroline Ann, They could be "Carrie Anne" Or something like that. Be very careful!
Don't ever announce your school is having a certain event or that you are going to a specific place or event. This will give any of your anonymity away.
Never mention your teacher's names or what classes you have when. People can now search for teachers on the web and find what school you are in and narrow down your location from there!
Be extremely careful of chatrooms. Let a parent know what you are doing at all times. Never call someone from a chatroom. Never trust people even if you have chatted with them for a year. They still can be dangerous even if you think you know them!
Never! Never! Never! meet someone off the Internet unless your parents know and are going with you! It's so dangerous today, and even though you feel you will NEVER get hurt, or that you know the person, there are so many dangers.
Don't ever feel like you know it all. When it comes to meeting people off the internet, please realize that people have died from it. They were sure they knew the person. You may be no different!
Parents should also always have their child's sign in info. I have this rule with my teen and she knows if I cannot get in then she is off!
