With the opening of the new Horseshoe Casino in Cleveland, Ohio my hometown and it inspired me to do some research on why people spend hours and sometimes days seemingly trapped in the casino bringing in billions of dollars per year and maybe even a day.
Majority of people in modern day life have never worn a watch and Casinos know this and aren't about to assist people in keeping the time.
It's a fact that when someone is engaged in an activity time seemingly drifts by at a faster pace for them, and you will rarely see humans more engaged than in a casino.
Whether it be at a slot machine, table game, or poker table, most people are in a trance-like state while chasing their dreams. With no clocks adorning a single casino wall, it's not hard to simply let time slip away deep into the night without a care in the world.
Don't expect to get the time from dealers either since they are told not to wear watches for this very reason.
Day and night melt together and schedules are non existent and before you know it you spend a day or two or three gambling away your life savings.
In most casinos there may be windows near the entrance or exit, but once you get inside you'll rarely see any. This tactic goes hand-in-hand with having no clocks. When they get you in, they don't want you to have any inkling of what is going on in the outside world.
If you were to see it getting dark outside, or even getting light with the dawn, your internal clock would kick in and tell you it's time to move on and do something else, like go to sleep.
Casinos are almost always filled with a symphony of alluring stimulation: machines ringing, digital beeping, change clinking, and lights flashes captivates because it gives the impression that everyone is indeed winning when, in reality, most people are losing.
Even when someone loses miserably the machine still lets off sounds of euphoria and makes the people just entering the casino to get in on the action and WIN BIG as the machine proclaims people do at the machine.
If you want to eat, use the bathroom, or cash out your chips you have to walk deeper into the casino. They are kept as far back as possible as another way to keep you in the facility longer and when you come back as you are walking the 3 miles back to the exit there are hundred of games to capture your attention again.
People who just cashed in their winnings many be tempted to have a second go of pushing their luck.
The ambiance in casinos are always feature mellow and low lighting giving off a friendly environment which encourages you to stay and feel safe, secure and cozy.
Like shopping malls and grocery stores, the soundtracks played at casinos are always soft, easing, and calm sate which helps get the gambler in the trance-like state that is desired.
Casinos themselves are psychological battlefields
filled with amazing architectural design and every thing in it masterfully crafted to play on the players' psyche and make them feel safe and comfortable to make them stay for hours.
You have put some intelligence into this great list. Unless a set amount is decided upon I think I would spend time in a casino too. I go one a year with a friend.
