Americans consume high amounts of soda each year to the extent of 25 gallons according to research done by Harvard Medical School. The only benefits that come from drinking soda are none. There is nothing nutritional about a bottle of pop, and diet pop is just like drinking poison with all of its toxic, artificial sweeteners.
The average soda drinker does not think about the health hazards of consuming pop on a daily basis, but once their health takes a dip, awareness begins for some people. Given that America is one of the most obese nations, I hope that this trend can be reversed for our children's sakes or the doctor's offices will be overloaded in the next twenty years.
If you drink one soda every day for a year, you can easily gain twelve pounds a year from the sugar content. If you drink more soda, but less often, it's the same risk. Soda is just flavored water loaded with sugar, no different that eating cotton candy or you could just take a teaspoon and dump 12 servings of sugar into a glass of water.
Diet soda is so toxic, that there is no excuse for anyone to drink it and think it will keep the weight off. People who drink diet soda tend to drink more, thinking it's safe, but not according to the poor lab rats who ended up with deathly health issues after a steady diet of it.
Diabetes is one of the leading diseases in the United States and it is no wonder. Every fast food place has "free" refills of the most unhealthy thing you can drink with a junk food meal.
Since 1980, type 2 diabetes has tripled in Americans to the tune of 20.8 million people! Have we no self-control anymore?
Soda drinks leach important minerals from our bones and especially children who are still growing. Scientists believe that the acidity of colas weakens and destroys important bone minerals. Osteoporosis cases have risen to the number of 44 million Americans.
Our blood needs good, alkaline drinks to have oxygen and vital mineral and chemicals. Soda pop fructose only weakens the health of the blood and greatly increases high blood pressure disease.
Now the soda producers are putting stevia in the junky drinks to make them sound healthier. Since aspartame and splenda have been exposed as toxins, the big push is stevia. Stevia is a better choice, but the other contents are not, so go with water or milk for your young ones, especially. Save their teeth and an expensive trip to the dentist.
The health detriments from drinking soda go beyond these five tips, so do chose water as the best option for your health drink.
Excellent list, especially #3; not a lot of people are aware that carbonated drinks are bad for bone health, even if they do know that they are bad for you in other ways.
I love your well researched lists. We have a lot of the same interests ... I knew all of the above except number four ... I struggle a little with high blood pressure so am definitely not going to pick up a soda habit any time soon! Thanks! H5!
