Once you are ready to paint your home and it finally comes down to picking the colors you can quickly realize just how hard this decision really can be and how important it is to pick a perfect house paint color.
The contractor you choose to paint your home should have plenty of paint charts and there will literally be thousands of color combinations to choose from to make your paint color decision and this process can feel more then a little overwhelming. Take a deep breath and start by eliminating all the colors and shades you don't like and then you will have a basic idea of what you are left to work with as your ideal house paint color.
A great way to figure out what you are looking for in a house paint color is to simply get into your car and drive around and look at other homes. There is no better way to get a feel for what you like and don't like then actually seeing paint colors schemes on houses. This is a great way to get you headed in the right direction and if you find a home with the perfect paint colors simply stop and knock on the door and explain to the homeowner that you are in love with their color choice and ask if you can match the color charts to their homes paint. Almost all homeowners are flattered that you love their color scheme the most and more then willing to help, some will even tell you exactly the type of paint and exact color they used.
Be open to suggestions and take in the professional advice that your painter offers you. If you painter stresses that the dark green shade you have picked looks much darker when applied then listen to him or her, they are the ones who have the experience.
Most major paint stores now have the ability to make a custom paint color made just to your specifications and desires, this means that you can have virtually have any color scheme possible made to order. If you decide to go with a custom paint color definitely keep the color combination or formula used written down in a safe place for future needs.
Try having your choice of colors applied to a small area of your house and see if you love it or hate it when the second coat dries. It is not hard to change your mind after painting a very small area then once you have a whole house painted so do make every effort to be at home when the paint starts getting applied. There is a big difference in seeing a paint chip color on a two inch square then on a complete side of a house.
Great tips! It is so important to take time to do the things you listed.
Congrats on front page.
We just got done painting our house and I agree with you. I t was very difficult choosing a color that we thought that we for sure liked. Home Depot sells a sample can of paint with the color that you think you like at a cheaper color. They strongly recommend doing this. I am very happy we did, because the color that we thought we liked, we ended up not liking it at all. Fortunately, we only lost out on a couple of dollars instead of $50.00. Thanks for sharing this list.
Congrats on the front page!
