The zany trio used animals to great comic effect in many of their shorts. There's a lot of comedy gold that can be mined from talking birds.
The stooges are forced to spend the night in the mansion of Curly's murdered Uncle Bob O. Link. Their suspicions that the joint is haunted are reinforced when a parrot climbs inside a skull and walks and flies around all over the place. The short is titled "If a Body Meets a Body".
"Find the letter" hints Polly the Amazon in the short "Disorder in The Court". The note, it turns out, is attached to the parrot's leg- who then gets out of his cage. Chaos ensues as the stooges attempt to retrieve the bird and note.
Unknown to the Stooges, a parrot crawls inside a cooked turkey in "Three Dark Horses". Larry finds stuffing the bird with crackers to be mysteriously quick; and just before carving, the parrot squawks, startling the trio. Eventually the parrot/turkey walks away upright.
In "Men in Black" Moe scoffs at a mental patient's visions of "great big giant green canaries" - until he belatedly notices a large green parrot has flown down and perched on his shoulder.
In "Cuckoo on a Choochoo", an inebriated Shemp has hallucinations of Carie, a five foot tall canary; with whom he dances and and appears to have an affection for bordering on unwholesome.
EXTRA: "Lollipalooza" is slang for an extravaganza. While its etymology is lost in time, the word was repopularized in a Three Stooges short, even inspiring a music promoter to use the word to dub a traveling rock music festival. Parrot Palooza is a three day festival for pet bird owners held annually in New Jersey.
