The Atlanta Braves has a unique history about them and this list contains some of the facts about this team and their long history, which started in 1871 in Boston.
The Braves can claim as the only team that won a World Series title in three different cities. The first one came in 1914 while playing in Boston when the Braves beat the Philadelphia Athletics 4-0. The second one came in 1957 while playing in Milwaukee when they beat the New York Yankees 4-3. And the third one came in 1995, while playing in Atlanta, in which they beat the Cleveland Indians 4-2.
The Brave is one of two charter teams remaining, the other being the Chicago Cubs, when they was founded in Boston in 1871 as the Boston Red Stockings. That is not to be confused with the Boston Red Sox. The Braves can claim to being the oldest continuously playing team in American professional sports. The Chicago Cubs did not play after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.
The Braves are the only team to have two players to hit homerun number 714 for them. The first was Babe Ruth (yes, I did say it correctly) hit number 714 with Braves (the team was still in Boston) in 1935, the date was May 25 of that year and hit his final three homeruns against the Pirates in Pittsburgh. And the second player was Hank Aaron hitting his 714 homerun with the Braves (the team is now in Atlanta).
The following are the names that the tam played under since they started playing. The names are as follows: Boston Red Stockings from 1871-1876,
Boston Red Caps from 1876-1882, Boston Beaneaters from 1883-1906, Boston Doves from 1907-1910, Boston Rustlers in 1911, Boston Braves from 1912-1935, Boston Bees from 1936-1940, Boston Braves from 1941-1952, Milwaukee Braves from 1953-1965 and Atlanta Braves from 1966-present.
The following are the players who have their number retired by the Braves and there has been seven of them. The following players are: 47- Tom Glavine, 31- Greg Maddux, 3- Dale Murphy, 35- Phil Niekro, 44- Hank Aaron, 41- Eddie Mathews and 21- Warren Spahn.
