While there are many advantages to working from home; I particularly love the flexibility to choose my own work schedule. There are also many things I wish I had been better prepared for when I began my home based career.
Believe it or not, just because the work is done at home, does not make the actual work any less difficult. It is still work. In fact, for many of the reasons detailed below, the work can become much more difficult when done from home!
Too many distractions in many forms. From the phone ringing, friends texting, television calling, refrigerator humming and Facebook looming, there are many distractions that will require your own tough will to fight against!
Keeping organized is imperative to your success working from home. Thought your workspace was a mess before? Imagine all your work clutter plus your personal home clutter piling up! From your computer to your desktop, you need to stay organized in order to keep focused and error free.
Making Goals is important to succeeding in a home based job. But even more important is keeping those goals realistic. It can take a while to learn the right balance between home and work. Setting your goals too high only leads to failure and a feeling that working from home will not be for you. However, make your goals something you know you can achieve and you will see the rewards! Then, slowly increase your work load until you reach your maximum without being overloaded.
While working from home does require you to be self-sufficient. One of the things many people forget is that they are not alone! Learn what resources you have. Whether it is a coworkers email, your supervisors contact information, an online forum or a support phone number, you do have resources! Don't be afraid to use them! The best and most successful work at home people know the value of their resources!
